Autosport 3 Hour Race, Snetterton May 31st
The second running of this historic race, the longest historic race in the UK at present. 35 entrants, but lots of Chevrons. We were in Class C2 and in qualifying were second in class and 20th overall.
The Race
The rolling start went well and the race settled down to a steady progression. At the end of the first hour we were up to 17th. Shortly after this I had to pit to have a wobbly rear wheel tightened up. As the halfway mark approached a safety car came out so it was opportune to pit.
Refuellling and a quick check over the car and my co driver Charlie Kemp set off. After 10 minutes or so the class leading E Type came in for its refuelling/driver change stop. As soon as it returned to the race it was black flagged for a fuel leak - so up to class winning status for us, but almost immediately drama - Charlie pitted with the steering wheel moving about! The support bracket that kept the column in place had broken and was unfixable, we too were out. Very disappointing.
Qualified 20th overall, 2nd in class in 1.24.575
Race result: DNF
