21st March @ Snetterton | March 2009

A bright but cold morning welcomed us to Snetterton for my first meeting of the year.  Qualifying for both races went without mishap.  All I had to do was try and remember who to go flat out - rather than M25 speed!

Qualifying for Race 1, the Cloth Cap event, showed as expected that we didn't have the straight line grunt to match Jamie Boots TVR.  Qualifying for Race 2, March Hares Allcomers was again a question of power!

Race 1 - Cloth Cap and XK Challenge

A reasonable start but red flagged half way round as an XK and a Lotus collided on the start line.  At the re-start  held my second place but had Harry Wyndham's E Type all over my back bumper!  As the race developed Jamie Boot pulled away in his TVR and I had a real ding dong battle with Harry.  I was having trouble braking into the Esses and after about 5 laps Harry got past me.  On the next lap I regained my place leaving the Esses and then began to pull away.

By the time of the compulsory pit stops I was alone in second place, but enjoying lapping some slower cars.  After 40 minutes (reduced because of the start line incident) I finished second, exactly half way in time between 1st and 3rd!   After the race Jamie showed me a bit of broken brake shoe - if only the race had been full length!!

Race 2

In the Second Race, a 20 minute sprint, I watched as the 3 cars roared away from me, not to be seen again!  I then completed a lonely race in a steady fourth place, but first in class.

All in all, not a bad start to the season and a slightly quicker best race lap than this race last year.
