2 car 'on parade' this weekend - E Type and MK2 Jaguars.

In the Gents Drivers the list of entrants looked like a veritable who's who of historic racing.

Qualifying went OK but only 18th.  At the start of the race it was manic.  At the front were 4 or 5 cars then a small gap to another which is when I found myself in a manic struggle with Steve Turly in another E Type, 2 Cobras and a Bizzarini which was spilling fuel all over me - and the track!  People were using all the track plus grass run off areas - amazingly furious racing!

Just when I thought this can't go on like this for a whole hour the cockpit began to fill with smoke.  I pulled off opposite the new pit wall to watch the rest of the race, only to see an E Type hit said wall very hard and bring the race to a stop.

I was taken back to the pits where the guys couldn't find anything seriously wrong, so was sent out again at the re-start at the back of the field - but straight away the same problem, so a frustrated return to the pits.  Further investigations post race confirmed a gearbox leak.

In the MK2 I was one of 6 MK1/MK2 jags against 36 American V8's in the over 2 litre touring cars.

Some of the other MK2's appeared to have been set up with different i.e. non FIA rules and so with the benefit of larger brakes and extra carbs went somewhat quicker.  That apart it was good close racing and must have been great to watch.  The first race was OK but the second more enjoyable as towards the end there were 4 of us in jags all close together.  Unfortunately I then got a fuel surge problem and missed the last 2 laps. 

Overall a great event and some more speed found as I got used to driving these jags.

Qualifying: 31st (ex 41) in 2.28.313 @ 77.01mph

Race 1: 26th in 22.45.623 - best lap 2.27.758

Race 2: DNF (running 19th) - best lap 2.26.693 @ 75.83mph
