Race Calendar & Results

2 races entered at this fast, bumpy and challenging circuit that is one of my favourites. 

An early start with mist in the air.  The promised sunshine seemed to have forgotten to turn up, a bit like Bob Searles who nearly missed the racing because he broke down on the M4!

Qualifying

Out first for championship qualifying and an easy few laps then a quick one, but a noisy back axle brought me in after a handful of laps.  I had done enough though to get a good pole.

Investigation soon found a broken diff carrier so then we needed a man with a welding kit.  Fortunately we found one but in doing so missed qualification for the Intermarque Race so would have to start from the back of the grid - just like at Mallory!

Race 1 - AMOC Classic Championship

Once clear of Robert Rowe I opened up a little lead then maintained that to preserve my noisy back axle - still no quieter after the emergency repairs to the diff carriers.  It was an uneventful run to the flag.

Race 2 - AMOC Intermarque

Starting 22nd out of 22 meant this was a different ball game.  A rolling start and the front runners were well gone by the time the back of the grid got going!  By mid way through the race I was up to 5th and could see Bob Searles Aston chasing 3 Ferraris.  The gap closed and Bob gave me an easy overtake (Intermarque is a team event as well as individual) and so I set about the 3 Ferraris.  They had better traction out of the corners but less end of straight speed.  I was hurrying them for a couple of laps when numbers 2 and 3 nearly tripped over each other so I was through.  Just one to go and soon I had him.

My only worry then was would my noisy axle hold up - it did so a very satisfying victory and Bob got third on the last lap so good for V8's in the Championship too.

Classic Championship: pole in 1.15.295 (88.45 mph0

Intermarque: didn't qualify

Race 1 - Classic

Result: 1st in 16.02.835 @ 83.00mph

My best lap: (fastest of the race) 1.18.095 (85.28mph)

Race 2 - Classic

Result: 1st in 21.17.775 @ 83.39mph

My best lap: (fastest of the race) 1.17.766 (85.64mph)
