AMOC Mallory Park, Sunday 27th April
The first AMOC event of the year. 2 races entered - the AMOC and the Intermarque. Both Championship races, but different tyres for each event so that may be interesting.
Qualifying on a dry track. First session for the AMOC Championship. 15 minutes, all felt well, with a higher diff I was only using 2nd and 3rd which was OK, except for being slow away from the hairpin, but hopefully greater gains elsewhere. At the end of the session I found myself on pole and for the first time, ahead of McWhirters DB4 Zagato.
Second qualifying was for the Intermarque, again 15 minutes and again pole position. All seemed to be 'so far so good'.
Race 1 - AMOC
Still dry! As I feared McWhirters powerful, but light Zagato replica pulled ahead and took the lead into the first bend. The chase was on! I was quicker around the track but losing out leaving thhe hairpin. Once or twice I nearly rammed him as he lifted off on the exit. Professional tricks not really necessary in club racing! After about 10 laps he got a bit sideways coming out of Gerards and I was back in the lead. Slowly the gap opened up as we began to lap other cars.
But with just 5 minutes to go a bearing in a half shaft expired and I lost all drive going through the Esses.
A certain win snatched away by mechanical failure. Bother!
Race 2 - Intermarque
I watched as Thornton Mustard from second on the grid led throughout. I think it would have been another win.
So a heavy cost for one small part breaking.
