HGTCC | April 2007

HGTCC at Brands Hatch, 28, 29th April

There were two races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, both for two drivers.

Qualifying on Saturday on trhe Grand Prix circuit was pretty busy with over 40 cars and nearly twice as many drivers trying to get a good lap in a short period of time.

As always my co driver John Bussel went well and we achieved a good 5th.

After qualifying ,when checking over the car  a problem was noticed with the brake bias levers  next to the brake fluid reservoirs. This was fixed but the balance was unfortunately set in such a fashion that it was to throw me off the track in an alarming fashion on the first lap of the first race. This happened approaching Druids on the very first lap, as I braked the rear wheels instantly locked up, the car spun round and headed backwards towards the gravel trap. How everyone else thundering up to Druids avoided me  I really don’t know! It was however very boring watching the rest of the race!!

Sundays race could not be worse. Saturdays result set the grid for Sundays race so we started from the back row of the grid.

I started and managed to move up from 38th to about 32nd on the first lap. Then a safety car period stopped progress for a few laps. With the race back underway I continued to move up the field. At the halfway stage I pitted to hand over to John Bussell in 12th place. John set off to improve our position further, but each place getting harder to gain. At the end of the race we were running 7th, but as the race was red flagged and thus stopped we were awarded 8th place on countback.

Definitely a better result, but the competition in the Heritage races where unlimited engine size and development are permitted is very intense. We still need to look for higher gearing or more gears for these long tracks.
