Oulton Park

The first meeting of the year, the first real outing in the new car. Oulton Park is a difficult track to get right with a number of blind corners and brows and not much run off in some places. Qualifying went reasonably well and resulted in 6th fastest.   Under the rules of the Heritage Series for the 2 driver races the slowest drivers time counts when determining the grid.  Additionally single drivers have a time penalty at the changeover. Monday arrived bright and sunny but by the time we headed for the assembly area it was overcast and a few spots of rain had fallen.  A last minute concern had resulted in a new set of unscrubbed tyres to be fitted which is not ideal. A rolling start was employed and the field all made the first few corners.  On lap 4 I managed to pass Bob Searles DBS V8 moving up to 3rd place (not been here before!) but then I got passed by the flying MGB V8 of McCarthy and McCarthy.  During driver changes the Camaro of Boysie Thurtle/Roger Bennington moved up to 2nd.  A further tussle with McCarthy ensued when he cut the corner at the chicane but at the end of the 40 minute 21 lap race the Team Belfry V8 came home 5th.   A reasonable result for our first outing together! The B car, our MGB V8 with Ant and Ciaran, qualified 12th fastest and had an uneventful first outing apart from a little trouble with the car jumping out of gear!   They ended up in 11th place just two and a half seconds behind a DB4 and 3rd in their class.Overall a good first meeting for Team Belfry.
