AMOC Meeting at Brands Hatch

I entered the Intermarque and the endurance races and the boys entered the endurance race. Qualifying for the AMOC Intermarque Championship with 37 entrants was on a wet track with wet tyres and meant 7th on the grid.   A change to dry tyres for qualifying for the Invitation Endurance Race produced a better time of 54.7 seconds but with some very quick modern cars this meant only 8th on the grid with the boys on 16th out of 32 runners. The rain held off and the Intermarque had an exciting and noisy rolling start.   I had an almost race long chase after a D Type Jaguar replica but got past him when he ran wide onto the grass approaching clearways.   I finished my first race of the day in 5th place. The endurance race had a standing start with 32 cars on the grid.   Unfortunately a front runner lost control leaving the grid and caused a 3 car pileup.   The restart went more smoothly and an exciting 30 minute race ensued. There was a real mix of cars including a Noble, some very quick Lotus, Caterham and Sunbeam Tigers.   All smaller, lighter and a bit more nimble than a big Aston V8, but I was told mine made the best noise!

As usual I did both stints in this two man race which is penalised by a 30 second stop in the pits I believe this equates to a real penalty of about 15 seconds.   There was lots of action, cars spinning off, oil on the track and close racing throughout, but at the end of the half hour another 5th place was secured.   Ant and Ciaran in the MGB had an excellent race with their tidy driving seeing them move up from 16th to 8th by the finish.   Altogether a pretty successful second race meeting of the year for Team Belfry.
